Mr. Larsen is a licensed professional engineer in 20 states and has over 14 years of forensic engineering experience. He has served as an expert on hundreds of matters involving:

 

  • Construction/design defects
  • Corrosion/rot
  • Water intrusion
  • Explosions/vibrations
  • Fire
  • Snow/Ice
  • Soil Issues
  • Retaining wall failure
  • Tree/vehicular impacts

 

Mr. Larsen has assessed over one thousand roofs and has authored a publication on the adequacy of design roof loads. He has served as an expert in matters that have affected Utah case law concerning roof damage and repairability.

 

Mr. Larsen has performed research and testing on various roofing components and materials to simulate the effects of wind and hail. Related to this effort, he has taught seminars regarding attempts to mimic or exaggerate storm damage to engineers, building owners, insurance professionals, and law enforcement.

 

An area of particular emphasis throughout Mr. Larsen’s career has been his focus on determining the cause of water intrusion through building envelopes using nondestructive testing. Mr. Larsen is a certified Master Thermographer in compliance with the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) and has taught seminars and provided testimony regarding the principals of infrared technology. Mr. Larsen is a specialist in investigating wall and roof assemblies for trapped moisture and/or construction deficiencies using infrared and electrical impedance.

 

Mr. Larsen excels in communicating clear and succinct engineering opinions through written and verbal reporting. He has provided expert testimony in deposition and arbitration regarding various disputes and has been qualified as an expert in court.
